My style of writing is that I follow chronological order. I think I haven't developed a different style yet due to limited reading. Honestly, I don't really find reading enjoyable. It only makes me sleepy. However, if I could make up other reasons, it's partially because, I am not very open minded. I don't want to know things that will change my perspective. I don't want to read love story novels because they will stain my innocence. (I apologize for such way of thinking.) But now, I'm trying my best to change this kind of attitude because it's not good. I also know that God wants us to develop our skills and talents and share them with the world for His greater glory. For finding reading not enjoyable, I have not improved in writing. Back in college, I considered myself lucky if I had a high grade for my essays and compositions. But I can remember one time when my teacher asked me to read my essay because he said it had no bullshit and so straight to the point. Yes, that's the only thing where I am good at, writing very briefly and straight with no additional information. That's because, I have no other ideas to write about. The funny thing is, if the teacher requires to write lengthily, I could only write very short ones, while if the teacher asks to summarize a story, I actually make the story longer than the original. In addition, I can only write decent ones when I am given a whole day to write excluding the research that I do for ideas and information. See? It becomes really troublesome when you have limited ideas in your head due to low reading skills. Reading really helps in writing and public speaking unless you are very good in making things up. (In my case, I am not.)
So, let me make my point. Reading is very important because it is a prerequisite for writing good. Through reading, you'll be able to know different styles of writing and apply it on your own. In my case, since I don't read often and don't know any authors, I'm stuck with my own style that I hopefully have. You will also have plenty of ideas that you can incorporate in your writing. It can also improve your vocabulary. See again? That's all I could say because I have limited ideas. Maybe I should start reading now.
